A brief Description of SONA sub-committees under 15th Executive Committee

1. SONA Committee on Architecture Education (SCAE)
Chairperson: Ar. Sanjay Upreti
Co-Chairman: Ar. Sweta Shrestha
Coordinator: Ar. Arjun Basnet (General Secretary)
SCAE aims to sensitize the educational institutes (Faculty Members and Students) to participate in SONA’s reform initiatives and to create a synergy between academic domain of SONA and architectural institutes improving the quality and design of educational environment.

2. SONA Committee on Green and Sustainable Architecture (SCGSA)
Chairperson: Ar. Sakar Shrestha
Co-Chairman: Ar. Pranita Sharma Pandey
Coordinator: Ar. Ruchi Bajracharya / Sujan Silpakar (Executive Member)
The SCGSA aims to encourage and Advocate Green and Sustainable Building Agenda among Practicing Architects and Engineers. The 14th SCGSA has set forth three goals and five objectives and list of activities for the years 2021 and 2022. It aims to formulate Guidelines for Green Building and Sustainable Architecture through various workshops and series. It also includes promotional, sensitization, and information dissemination activities.

3. SONA Committee on Young Architects (SCYA)
Chairperson: Ar. Sugandha Subedi
Co-Chairman: Ar. Sabin Maharjan, Ar. Anup Chhetri
Coordinator: Ar. Lokendra Acharya (Treasurer)
SCYA aims to foster the young architects and provide necessary support and guidance and conduct various programs and activities that will be benificial for young architects.

4. SONA Committee on International Relationship (SCIR)
Chairperson: Ar. Swarup Gurung Kone
Co-Chairman: Ar. Ashok Sainju
Coordinator: Ar. Iswar Lal Joshi (President)
SCIR aims to Maintain and Promote the relationship with ARCASIA, UIA, SAARCH and other architecture institutions and to reach out to Nepali Architects residing outside Nepal and develop network to expand professional understandings of architectural
practice and identify key area of improvements in Nepalese context in coherence with international context.

5. SONA Committee on Social Responsibility (SCSR)
Chairperson: Ar. Navin Devkota
Co-Chairman: Ar. Suraj khanal
Coordinator: Ar. Abhishek Mananda Bajracharya (Deputy General Secretary)
SCSR aims to advocate for conservation of the built architectural heritage and also for the development of disaster resilient architecture and settlement. And to make people aware about architecture, role of architects and impact of architecture on society.

6. SONA Committee on Policy and Council Advocacy (SCPCA)
Chairperson: Ar. Rajendra Khatiwada
Co-Chairman: Ar. Raju Neupane
Coordinator: Ar. Astha Acharya (Executive Member)
GOAL: Establish Nepal architects’ council through act, Advocate for amendments to the consultant’s selection criteria for hiring of consulting service and Monitor compliance of architectural practice with the extant policies (bye-laws and building codes) , in case of non-compliance.

7. SONA Committee on Research (SCR)
Chairperson: Ar. Ram Prasad Suwal
Coordinator: Ar. Arjun Basnet (General Secretary), Ar. Sujan Silpakar (Executive Member)
SCAR aims to promote and enhance the culture of research in architecture academia and profession in terms of history and in vernacular and modern contexts and to record, document and publish researches done in the field of architecture practice, academia and critics.

8. SONA Committee on Professional Practice (SCPP)
Chairperson: Ar. Arun Dev Pant
Co-Chairman: Ar. Sher Bahadur K.C.
Coordinator: Ar. Pragya Pradhan (Executive Member) Ar. Nabin Ghising (Ex. Officio)
GOAL: Establish the standard of practice preparing code of ethics, SONA’s contract agreements, basic professional fees for freshers, adequate position in government sector, providing training/ workshops/ seminar for professional prosperity in Nepal.

9. SONA Committee on Women in Architecture (SCWA)
Chairperson: Ar. Uma Devi Sangachhen
Co-Chairman: Ar. Dristi Manandhar
Coordinator: Ar. Srijana Koirala (Executive Member)
GOAL: Enhancing visibility of women in architecture and increasing their role in shaping the built environment of Nepal through network building, recognition of their contribution and supporting women into architecture.

10. SONA Committee on Communication, Outreach and Publication (SCCOP)
Chairperson: Dr. Subik Kumar Shrestha
Co-Chairman: Ar. Anil Bhattarai
Coordinator: Ar. Kaushal Shrestha (Executive Member)
This committee aims to establish communication with fellow architects, architecture students, and personals from various other fields, and introduce architecture proffession and SONA to general public by conducting exhibitions, workshops and through social media and website.
This committee will also carryout the publication work of SONA.
